Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann on Saturday launched the doorstep delivery of free ration to the beneficiaries in Punjab.
Addressing a gathering in Khanna in Ludhiana district, Kejriwal said his government tried to implement the doorstep ration scheme in Delhi but alleged it was “stopped” by the BJP-led Centre.
“I felt very sad. One night, God came in my dream. He told me, Arvind, don’t worry. Your ration scheme is doing well. One day, it will be implemented. And now, we have done it in Punjab,” he said.
The AAP supremo said the ration through the public distribution system (PDS) never reached the beneficiaries for the last 75 years.
“One had to struggle to get ration. If 100 kg of ration was sent, only 10 to 15 kg reached the poor. The rest of the ration was taken away by middlemen, lenders and officers. This theft could have been stopped but unfortunately, no one checked the pilferage of ration,” he said.
“Political leaders used to steal ration. They used to contest elections by stealing ration. But now, an honest government has been elected in Punjab, and we have started the door-to-door ration scheme here,” he added.
Kejriwal asserted that the doorstep ration scheme will be implemented across the country in “five to ten years”.
“I want to tell you today that this door-to-door ration scheme is not going to be limited to Punjab. A day will come when this scheme will be implemented in the entire country within five to ten years. No party and no leader has the courage to stop this,” he said.
