Rajasthan High Court issues notice to state government, Centre over Jaipur LPG tanker blast


Rajasthan High Court took note of the LPG tanker accident-blast in Jaipur that has killed 14 people and left several injured and issued notices to the central and the state governments.

A single-judge bench of Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand also directed both governments to ensure proper compensation for the families of the people who were killed in the accident and also for the injured. He listed the matter for further hearing on January 10, 2025.

An LPG tanker collided with a truck, on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway, igniting a massive fire that engulfed the area in an inferno, with at least 37 vehicles going up in flames. At least 14 people were killed due to the blast and 30 others are in critical condition.

The court said that it had taken a suo motu cognisance of the issue to find solutions to prevent such fire accidents in public places.

Notably, the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety has directed the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan to submit a detailed report on the incident by January 20. A high-level committee has been constituted to thoroughly investigate all aspects of the accident, including an in-depth examination of the road’s construction, if applicable.

The Rajasthan government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the victims and Rs 1 lakh for the injured. The Central government has also announced Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives.
