Ram Mandir: Yogi Adityanath’s ‘sour grapes’ jibe at Team Uddhav for questioning temple construction site

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday hit out at the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut for questioning whether Ram Temple in Ayodhya was built on the site where the Babri Masjid stood before its demolition on December 6, 1992 by ‘kar sevaks’.

In an exclusive interview with Aaj Tak TV/India Today TV, Adityanath said the Ram Temple was built at the right spot and attacked Raut and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray for making such claims regarding the site.

“Sanjay Raut and Uddhav Thackeray themselves came to Ayodhya for darshan. Why didn’t they give this invaluable suggestion earlier? Anyone can say that grapes are sour,” he said.

Adityanath’s remarks came ahead of the pran pratishtha‘ (consecration) ceremony of the Ram Temple on January 22. Adityanath, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several other notable dignitaries are expected to attend the event.

Reacting to the Congress’s allegations that the Ram Temple consecration ceremony was an “RSS-BJP event”, Adityanath took a dig at party leader Rahul Gandhi.

“Congress had ruled the country for a long time since 1947. Who has stopped them from organising such events? Rahul Gandhi has been an MP since 2004 and ran the UPA government from the backdoor. This is not a secret. He has been organising events that have insulted the Constitution. They organised paper-tearing events in Parliament,” he said.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also rejected Opposition’s claims that the Ram Temple was being inaugurated with an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha election. He accused the Congress of doing vote bank politics on the issue.

“Is it not true that the Congress began its election campaign from Ayodhya itself? On one hand, they have been fooling Hindus and on the other hand, it was not able to give up its fascination with the Muslim vote bank. We never did politics on this issue,” he said.

Adityanath further said that the BJP has always respected the faith of the people.
