Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa is scheduled to undergo spinal surgery on December 11, according to a detailed medical report submitted to the Karnataka High Court.
The report, prepared by Dr Naveen, a neurosurgeon at BGS Hospital in Bengaluru, outlines the critical spinal issue the actor is facing and the immediate need for surgical intervention. Darshan, who had been experiencing severe back pain, was admitted to the hospital after doctors detected a serious spinal condition.
The surgery, aimed at alleviating his excruciating back pain, will be performed under anaesthesia, with doctors carefully explaining the risks and possible outcomes to Darshan and his wife.
Dr Naveen confirmed that the report, dated December 2 and December 5, had been shared with the actor’s family upon their request, ensuring full transparency regarding the treatment plan.
Darshan, who has been in the midst of a legal battle, was granted interim bail for six weeks on medical grounds by the Karnataka High Court in late October. This temporary relief allowed the actor, who is facing charges related to the murder of his fan, Renukaswamy, to seek necessary medical treatment.
As a key condition of his bail, Darshan was required to surrender his passport to address concerns about the potential flight risk. He was required to post a bond of Rs 2 lakh and provide two sureties.
Darshan was strictly prohibited from making any direct or indirect threats to witnesses, attempting to destroy evidence, or contacting any witnesses involved in the case.
The murder charges against Darshan stem from an alleged dispute involving inappropriate messages sent by Renukaswamy to Pavithra Gowda, a friend of the actor.
Police investigations suggest that Darshan may have orchestrated the attack on Renukaswamy, whose body was discovered near a storm drain in Sumanahalli on June 9.
Authorities allege that another accused, Raghavendra, lured Renukaswamy to a shed in RR Nagar under the pretence of a meeting with Darshan, where he was subsequently tortured and killed. The post-mortem report revealed that Renukaswamy died from shock and haemorrhage caused by multiple blunt injuries.
