Sandeshkhali unrest: Sandeshkhali unrest case in Supreme court demands special investigation, BJP team to visit region today


The unrest in the Sandeshkhali region of West Bengal continues as protesters, with a notable presence of women, continued to demand the arrest of Trinamool leader Shajahan Sheikh and his associates. The allegations against Sheikh and his cohorts include land grabbing and sexual harassment.

Amid the chaos, a fact-finding team formed by BJP chief JP Nadda is set to visit the region today. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court received a petition, demanding a special investigation into the cases of violence in Sandeshkhali, either by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

SANDESHKHALI UNREST: THE LATEST

  • A six-member fact-finding team formed by BJP chief JP Nadda is set to visit Sandeshkhali today. The team had landed in Kolkata on Thursday night. This comes after Nadda had asked the team to visit the region and meet women who had accused the Trinamool leader of sexual assault, and submit a report to him.

  • In connection with the unrest in Sandeshkhali, the Supreme Court has received a petition, demanding a special investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The petition also sought a fair and impartial investigation of the case. A PIL in the case was filed by advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava.
