Security at the Israel embassy in Delhi has been increased amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following Iran’s missile attacks on Israel on Tuesday, Delhi Police sources said.
Delhi Police has increased patrolling at and near the embassy and said that its teams have always been deployed at the building, they added.
Security at the Israel embassy was upped last year after Israel went into war with Palestinian terror outfit Hamas in Gaza after Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on October 7 last year.
In August, the Delhi Police had reviewed the security at the Israel embassy and Chabad House after receiving alerts from intelligence agencies following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh at his residence in Tehran.
Suspected IED blasts have occurred twice near the embassy in 2021 and 2023. No injuries were reported in both the explosions.
IRAN ATTACKS ISRAEL
Iran on Tuesday attacked Israel with 181 ballistic missiles in a dramatic escalation of tensions in the Middle East, which is already volatile amid the Israeli military’s offensive against Hamas in Gaza. Israel warned of severe repercussions for Tehran’s attacks.
The Islamic Republic targeted Israel after the Jewish nation killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in a massive airstrike on the group’s headquarters in Lebanon’s Beirut.
Last week, Israel began what it called a “limited ground” offensive against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon as it aimed to eliminate any traces of the group’s facilities or infrastructure along its northern border.
The Middle East remains on boil after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 last year, which triggered the current war in Gaza. Over 41,000 people have died in the nearly year-long conflict so far.
