Infinity is awaiting Buzz Lightyear.
Disney and Pixar released the first official trailer Wednesday for the upcoming “Toy Story” spinoff “Lightyear,” which stars Chris Evans voicing the beloved character Buzz Lightyear. Though the details of the animated adventure are still under wraps, don’t expect to see Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) and the gang.
“Lightyear” will explore the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the “real” space ranger who inspired the toy (famously voiced by Tim Allen in the “Toy Story” franchise). In the trailer, Evans’ Lightyear jumpstarts his journey to becoming an astronaut and even comes face-to-face with his signature green and purple suit in the final scene.
“To infinity and … .” The teaser comes to an end before he can finish his iconic catchphrase. See the nostalgic trailer below.

“Lightyear” is directed by the veteran Pixar animator Angus McLane, who co-directed 2016’s “Finding Dory,” and produced by Galyn Susman (“Toy Story That Time Forgot” short). The highly-anticipated film is set to hit theaters on June 17, 2022, according to a press release.
“The phrase ‘a dream come true’ gets thrown around a lot, but I’ve never meant it more in my life,” Evans said in a statement on social media Wednesday. “Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animated films runs deep. I can’t believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else. Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day.”
The “Knives Out” star continued: “Animated movies were an enormous part of my childhood. They were my escape. My adventures. My dreams. They were my first window into the magic of storytelling and performing. To @pixar and @AngusMacLane: ‘Thank you’ doesn’t even come close.”
