Stepwell from 1857 revolt era unearthed in UP’s Sambhal

A 250-foot-deep stepwell, believed to date back to the 1857 revolt, was uncovered on Saturday during a survey in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal. The stepwell was discovered during excavation work using two bulldozers at a site in the Laxman Ganj area.

Named Rani ki Bawdi, the stepwell’s discovery follows the recent unearthing of the ruins of an ancient Banke Bihari temple in the same area earlier this month, according to reports.
