Stray dogs bite 40 people in a single day in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal as mayor gets into action

Stray dogs have become a menace in Madhya Pradesh’s capital, Bhopal. On Tuesday, nearly 40 people were bitten by stray dogs in the city.

By Tuesday evening, more than 40 individuals who had been bitten by stray dogs had reached the hospital to receive rabies vaccinations. In the first week of January alone, over a dozen cases of dog bites were reported from various parts of the city.

On January 10, a seven-month-old baby was mauled to death by stray dogs in Bhopal. Since then, the municipal corporation has initiated a campaign to capture stray dogs.

On Tuesday evening, Mayor Malti Rai convened a meeting of corporation officials, also attended by Corporation Commissioner Noble Frank.

Officials informed the mayor that 30 dogs are being sterilised daily at ABC centres in Kajlikheda, Arbalia, and Adampur cantonments of Bhopal. The mayor directed the authorities to apprehend the stray dogs as soon as possible.

She has also urged pet owners to confine their pets at home or in cages. An FIR will be filed against them if they obstruct the municipal corporation’s work.
