Bibhav Kumar, aide and former personal secretary of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was arrested by Delhi Police on Saturday in connection with the alleged assault of AAP MP Swati Maliwal. Bibhav Kumar was taken out of the back gate of the Chief Minister’s residence.
The development comes two days after Delhi Police registered a case against Kumar following a complaint by Maliwal. In her complaint, Maliwal alleged that Bibhav Kumar slapped her 7–8 times and repeatedly kicked her in her chest and stomach when she went to the Chief Minister’s residence on May 13.
Maliwal claimed that the brutal assault by Bibhav did not stop even after she mentioned that she was on her periods. After the assault, Maliwal claimed her arms were sore and she had difficulty walking.
On Friday, the Delhi Police took Maliwal to Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to recreate the crime scene. Her statement was also recorded before a magistrate at the Tis Hazari court.
Meanwhile, Bibhav Kumar has filed a counter-complaint with the Civil Lines police station, alleging that Maliwal had “forcefully and unauthorisedly” entered the Chief Minister’s residence.
He also claimed that the former Delhi Commission for Women chairperson tried to “create a ruckus and assault” him. Kejriwal’s aide also claimed that the Rajya Sabha MP intended to harm the AAP chief and he strongly “objected”.
Addressing a press conference, Delhi minister Atishi claimed Maliwal was “blackmailed” by the BJP to become part of the “conspiracy” against the Chief Minister, who was recently granted interim bail in the liquor policy case to campaign for the polls.
On Friday, AAP released a video from May 13 in which Maliwal can be seen arguing with the security guards at the Chief Minister’s residence. Maliwal can be heard threatening the guards with police action, and dares them to throw her out.
In another video, the AAP MP was seen being escorted by security personnel out of the Delhi Chief Minister’s house. The AAP has accused Maliwal of staging a drama and claimed that in the video she was seen walking without any limp.
“It can be seen in the video that neither her clothes are torn, nor is she in pain. This video shows that all that has been written in the FIR is false. She is using abusive words towards Bibhav Kumar… The CCTV footage of the Chief Minister’s residence door shows that she is going comfortably out,” Atishi further said.
