Tamil Nadu’s bakery paid a unique homage to late industrialist Ratan Tata as they unveiled a 7-foot ice cake statue of the philanthropist playing with his dog, Tito. The statue, displayed outside the Aishwarya Bakeries, was crafted using 60 kilograms of sugar and 250 eggs.
Aishwarya Bakeries is known for its annual Christmas tradition of creating ice cake statues of notable figures. Past tributes have included Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and football legend Diego Maradona.
Ratan Tata, who passed away on October 9 in Mumbai, had long been admired for his deep affection towards animals. In his will, Tata ensured lifetime care for Tito, his German Shepherd, who now remains in the care of Tata’s longtime cook, Rajan Shaw.
Tata’s commitment to his pets was well-documented. In 2018, he declined a royal honour from King Charles III, then the Prince of Wales, to stay with an ailing dog. Businessman Suhel Seth recalled the incident, saying, “He was ready to attend, but when his dog fell critically ill, he called me and said, ‘I can’t leave him and come'”.
The bakery’s tribute has drawn crowds, with visitors stopping to take photographs and reflect on the bond Tata shared with his pets. The statue will remain on display through the Christmas season.
