Tamil Nadu Chief Minister declares Rs 3 lakh solatium for Dindigul fire victims – Tamil Nadu News

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh each to families of the six persons who died in the fire accident.

He also announced that Rs 1 lakh will be given to those undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Rural Development Minister I Periyasamy said the reason behind the fire at a Dindigul private hospital was reportedly due to a short circuit.

Talking to the media, Periyasamy said the administration was still unclear about the reason for the short circuit. “The sudden fire around 9.45pm caused smoke to emanate in the hospital. Ambulances were called and patients were moved to the government hospital,” he said.

At least six people were killed in a fire that broke out at a private hospital in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district on Thursday. A senior government official said that 29 patients were moved from the private hospital to the Dindigul Government Hospital.

The minister confirmed the deaths of six people. “Six people died due to suffocation and two are in critical condition,” he said, adding that the other injured were being taken care of.

“CM Stalin called me and immediately instructed me to provide necessary medical assistance,” Periyasamy said.

When the news of the fire first broke, Dindigul district collector MN Poongodi addressed the media and said that the patients from the hospital were moved to nearby government and other medical centres.

A senior fire and rescue department official said that they were working to control the situation and ensure the safety of everyone involved.
