Pattaravakkam Railway Station in Chennai witnessed dramatic scenes on Wednesday when two groups of students clashed and pelted stones at each other, leading to a panic situation at the railway station.

Three students have been caught in connection with the incident, and an investigation has been launched.

The violence took place when a suburban train reached Pattaravakkam railway station near Ambattur in Tamil Nadu’s capital city. Nearly 30 students inside the train suddenly began pelting stones and throwing wooden sticks at each other.

Panicked passengers alerted the RPF, leading officers to reach the spot and take three students into custody.

The violence was caught on camera, and the visuals have gone viral on the internet.

Initial investigation has revealed that the students belonged to Pachaiyappan College and Presidency College, who had a historic rivalry that led to such shocking clashes in trains and bus stops.

According to the police, the students from Pachaiyappan College were reportedly waiting on the platform, knowing that Presidency College students were aboard the train and had attacked them when the train stopped at Pattaravakkam railway station.

The police have formed a special team to trace others who had escaped after the violence.
