A gangrape and fraud case has been filed against 16 people, including a BJP MLA and his relatives, in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district after directions from a local court. The BJP MLA has, however, denied the allegations and called them a “political conspiracy”.
The case against MLA Harish Shakya from Badaun’s Bilsi seat, his brother Satendra Shakya and nephew, and several businessmen was filed under charges of gangrape and fraud worth crores and implicating the complainant in false cases.
According to the FIR, the dispute revolves around land owned by a man identified as Lalit Kumar. The BJP MLA and his associates allegedly pressured the complainant and his family to sell the land at Rs 16.50 crore, which was below the market price of Rs 18 crore, the complaint read.
When the family resisted, they faced a series of retaliatory actions, including implication in false cases of murder and rape, along with coercion and threats by the accused BJP MLA and his accomplice, the FIR said.
The MLA and his associates illegally acquired portions of the family’s land, it alleged.
The complainant also alleged that the MLA and two of his aides’ gangraped his wife at his camp office on September 17.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Brijesh Kumar Singh confirmed that a case was registered against 16 people, including the BJP MLA and his brother Satyendra Singh Shakya, a revenue clerk, in compliance with the court order, under the relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“The court has been informed. Inspector Manoj Kumar Singh, in charge of Civil Lines police station, will lead the probe,” the SSP said.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Harish Shakya denied the allegations, terming them a “political conspiracy”.
“All these allegations are baseless. This is a political conspiracy against me. An investigation is being done by the police and administration. I have faith in the investigation and the judicial system. I am sure justice will be served,” he said.
