Watch: Varun Dhawan’s ‘Ram, Raavan’ question to Amit Shah, his ‘Dharma’ response

Actor Varun Dhawan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had an engaging discussion at the Agenda AajTak conclave, during which Dhawan posed a question to Shah about the key difference between Lord Ram and Ravan. In response, the minister highlighted their contrasting approaches to dharma.

“What was the biggest difference between Lord Ram and Ravan?” Dhawan asked the minister from the audience.

Shah replied, “See, for some people, their interests are determined by their duties (dharma), whether or not they should pursue them. For others, their duties are determined by their self-interests. This is the difference between them”.

“Ram led his life based on his dharma, while Ravan tried to alter duties to fit his own definitions and thoughts,” the minister explained.

To this, the Bollywood actor, referencing the minister’s earlier comment on arrogance (ahankar), added, “You mentioned ahankar. Ravan was arrogant about his knowledge, while Ram was knowledgeable about arrogance (ahankar),” he said.

Shah replied, “This also comes under the definition of dharma”.

Further, Dhawan praised Shah, referring to him as the Hanuman of the country.

“People call him Chanakya in politics, but I would like to call him the Hanuman of our country, who serves the nation selflessly,” the actor said.

He added that even actors, who memorise dialogues, cannot deliver them with such clarity. Shah, he noted, was speaking from his heart with absolute clarity.
