We have to address root causes of the problem: Dr Madhura Swaminathan on farm stir

In an exclusive with India Today Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai, Dr Madhura Swaminathan, a developmental economist and Dr MS Swaminathan’s daughter, shared her perspective on the current farmer protests and on what’s the road ahead.

While reflecting on the recent honour bestowed on her late father with the Bharat Ratna, she voiced her disappointment and distress over the treatment of protesting farmers. She stated, “It’s distressing to see the blockade of farmers who had started off from Punjab.”  She strongly advocated for a comprehensive dialogue with farmers rather than treating them as adversaries. Her stance on sustainable agriculture radiates through her work and statements.
