Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he talked about the lack of infrastructural developments in Nagaland, and the overall “neglect” of northeastern states.
Addressing PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi said, “Your tall claims of development demand firsthand experience. Have you braved the broken roads that Nagaland’s people navigate daily?”
Speaking at a public rally in Nagaland on the third day of the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the former Congress chief said, “For the people of Nagaland to have to drive through these roads is an injustice. It is a betrayal of the people of Nagaland. How are we expected to bring a positive future to the young people of Nagaland with these roads?”
He highlighted the challenges faced by the people in Nagaland, including poor road conditions, insufficient access to electricity, and a lack of medical infrastructure.
Rahul Gandhi said the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was organised to bring the country’s attention to “the people of Nagaland, Manipur, Assam — to the people who are not part of the development that is taking place”.
On Tuesday, he also said people of Nagaland should feel at par with others in the country despite hailing from a “small state”. The Congress leader said the idea of the yatra is to give “justice to the people” and to “make politics, society and the economic structure more equal and accessible to everyone”.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was kicked off from Manipur‘s Thoubal district on January 14 and will travel through 15 states, 100 Lok Sabha seats. Rahul Gandhi is set to cover over 6,700 kilometres over 67 days, going through 110 districts. After its start in the northeastern states, the yatra will cut through the north and central, and conclude in Maharashtra on March 20.
