3 BSF personnel sustain gunshot injuries in mob attack in riot-hit Manipur’s Thoubal district


Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustained bullet injuries after an irate mob opened fire at them at Khangabok in ethnic riot-hit Manipur late on Wednesday night.

According to the police, the mob targeted the 3rd Indian Reserve Battalion (3IRB) in Khangabok, Thoubal District, but the security forces repelled them using the minimum necessary force.

Police said the mob also attempted to breach the Thoubal Police Headquarters, prompting the security forces to use force. Armed miscreants, who were a part of the mob, fired live rounds, injuring three BSF jawans.

The injured jawans have been identified as Constable Gourav Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sobram Singh, and ASI Ramji. The injured soldiers have been taken to Raj Medicity in Imphal for treatment.

Earlier, on January 17 morning, armed militants orchestrated a violent attack on the state forces, employing firearms and explosives in Moreh, Tengnoupal district. In the incident, one personnel of 6th Manipur Rifles, Wangkhem Somorjit Meetei, was martyred in the line of duty.

Another Manipur Police personnel of the 10th IRB, Takhellambam Sieleshwor Singh was also martyred in the attack by the armed militants at Moreh. Police said six of their personnel sustained injuries in the attack.

The injured police personnel had been identified as Md Kamal Hassan of 3d Indian Reserved Battalion (IRB), Songsuathui Aimol of 3d IRB, Md Abdul Hasim of 3rd IRB, Ngasepam Vim of 8 IRB (Spl CDO, ASI Sidarth Thokchom of 8th IRB (Spl CDO) and K Premananda of 1st IRB (Spl CDO).

Police said the security forces were fighting the miscreants.
