Andhra Pradesh Congress chief Rudra Raju resigns, YS Sharmila likely to take over: Sources

Andhra Pradesh Congress chief Gidugu Rudra Raju has resigned from his post, sources told India Today TV. YS Sharmila, who recently joined the Congress, is likely to be appointed as the new state president, sources said.

According to sources, an official announcement will be made in this regard by the Congress soon.

Earlier this month, YS Sharmila, who is the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, announced the merger of her YSR Telangana Congress party with the Congress.

Lauding the Congress, Sharmila said it is the largest secular party in the country as it unwaveringly serves all communities and unites all sections of people.

Before joining the Congress, YS Sharmila had reiterated her support to the party and did not contest Telangana elections to prevent a split of votes that could have benefited former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
