Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra: Danish Ali meets Rahul Gandhi in Manipur, joins rally

Lok Sabha MP Danish Ali, who remains suspended by the BSP, on Sunday joined the Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ that started from the strife-torn state of Manipur.

Earlier, while confirming his participation in the 67-day-long yantra (march), Ali said that he “would be failing” in his duty as “a politician and a social worker” if he did not support Rahul Gandhi in his march.

The yatra will traverse 6,713 km, mostly, on buses, and will cover 100 Lok Sabha constituencies, and 110 districts in 67 days, before culminating in Mumbai on March 20 or 21.

Notably, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) suspended Ali last month for “anti-party” activities.

After joining the yatra, he wrote on X, “Today, by joining the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra of Rahul Gandhiji, I sounded the trumpet of the struggle for justice and unity. This yatra is a struggle to give the poor, deprived and exploited class their rights and improve their lives. The Yatra is a struggle against hateful politics and a government that operates at the behest of the rich”.

This is not the first time Ali has shown praise and support for the Wayanad MP.

Last year, Rahul Gandhi visited Ali amid the uproar over BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri’s objectionable remarks against the ex-BSP leader in Lok Sabha.

After his visit, an emotional Danish Ali said he felt he was “not alone”.

“Rahul Gandhi came here to boost my morale. He said do not take it to heart and take care of your health. I felt relieved that I was not alone,” he said.

During the Winter Session of the Parliament in 2023, Bidhuri made objectionable remarks against Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on the Chandrayaan-3 mission. His comments drew huge outrage, and were later expunged from records of Parliament.
