Boy nicknamed rail mantri meets Union ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal, Dr Subhash Sarkar who helped his birth in train

A boy from Jharkhand on Friday met the people who helped in his birth on a train six years ago. The people who helped with his mother’s delivery were two Union Ministers — Arjun Ram Meghwal and Dr Subhash Sarkar.

The six-year-old boy, Deendayal Kumar Gupta, met the ministers in Parliament on Friday. He said his nickname is ‘Rail Mantri’ as he was born on a train and added that he wishes to become the railway minister when he grows up.

The boy was born on December 24, 2017 on the Chakradharpur-Howrah train. His mother Laxmi Devi was travelling from her husband’s home in Jharkhand to Bankura in West Bengal to deliver her child when she suddenly went into labour on the train.

Arjun Ram Meghwal and Subhash Sarkar happened to be travelling on the same train.

When the train was stopped in Purulia after Devi went into labour, Meghwal told the railway staff that Dr Sarkar was a gynaecologist. Accordingly, medical instruments for the procedure were arranged and Dr Sarkar delivered the boy.

Arjun Ram Meghwal said the boy was named “Deendayal” because the first sound Deendayal Upadhyay heard was that of a train whistle.

Dr Sarkar, who accidentally became Devi’s gynaecologist, has since become Deendayal’s guardian.
