Congress’s ‘Hitler’ jibe on Bhagwant Mann after pact for Chandigarh mayoral polls

Congress leader and the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, slammed Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday and said the latter should put up pictures of Adolf Hitler in his office.

Bajwa said the AAP leader should remove the pictures of BR Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from his offices as he doesn’t follow their ideals and replace them with pictures of the German dictator.

Notably, Congress and AAP are allies in the mega Opposition bloc INDIA. Bajwa’s remark belies the pact between the Congress and the AAP to contest the Chandigarh mayoral polls which will be held on Thursday.

AAP MP Raghav Chadha had earlier said that the INDIA bloc is going to fight BJP for the first time in the elections.

Kuldeep Kumar Tita from AAP will fight for the mayor’s seat while the Congress nominees Gurpreet Singh Gabi and Nirmala Devi will contest the posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor.

This decision came amid a demand by leaders of the two parties to contest the Lok Sabha seats in Punjab alone, without forming an alliance with the other party.

Notably, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and other party leaders were also present when Partap Singh Bajwa made the remark against Bhagwant Mann.

The Congress leader’s remark accusing the AAP government of practising “dictatorial governance” came a day after party MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira walked out of jail after he was granted bail in a criminal intimidation case.

Khaira was arrested in the intimidation case on January 4 after he was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in connection with a 2015 drugs case.
