Dense fog prevailed in parts of Delhi and adjoining states on Thursday as coldwave conditions continued.
According to the India Meteorological Department, very dense fog was witnessed in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and northwest Madhya Pradesh, at 11.30 pm on Wednesday.
Moderate fog was observed in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh and Tripura, while shallow fog was witnessed in isolated pockets of Chandigarh, northwest Rajasthan and Bihar, it said.
Meanwhile, some trains were reported running late to New Delhi due to cold weather conditions.
On Wednesday, coldwave conditions continued in Punjab and Haryana with minimum temperatures staying below normal levels in most parts of both states.
Ballowal Saunkhri in Punjab’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district recorded zero degrees Celsius, according to a report from the Meteorological Department.
Among other places in Punjab, Amritsar recorded a low of 2 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana and Patiala experienced cold wave conditions at 2.8 and 4.5 degrees Celsius respectively, which were up to three degrees below normal.
In neighbouring Haryana, Karnal was the coldest place as it recorded a low of 3.4 degrees Celsius, which was 3 degrees below normal. Ambala, Hisar, Narnaul and Rohtak experienced a coldwave at 4.9, 5.8, 3.5 and 6.4 degrees Celsius, while Bhiwani and Sirsa recorded minimum temperatures of 3.5 and 5.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
