The body of a Hyderabad resident, who was allegedly forced to join the Russian Army, and was killed in the Ukraine war, arrived at his residence in Bazarghat on Sunday.
The man, Mohammed Asfan, 30, allegedly fell prey to a job fraud and was forced to join the Russian Army.
The Indian Embassy in Moscow had confirmed his death on March 6. Asfan is survived by his wife and two children.
Reacting to his death, the Indian Embassy in Moscow had said in a post on X, “We have learnt about the tragic death of an Indian national Shri Mohammed Asfan. We are in touch with the family and Russian authorities. Mission will make efforts to send his mortal remains to India,” it wrote.
Asfan, along with several others, was allegedly misled by deceptive agents who recruited them as ‘helpers’ to assist the Russian Army in the war.
Earlier, Hamil Mangukiya, 23, from Gujarat, who was working as a ‘helper’ with the Russian Army during ithe Ukraine war, had also died.
Mangukiya had applied for a job in Russia through an online advertisement and had reached Moscow from Chennai. But, he was then recruited as an assistant in the Russian Army and was killed in an airstrike by Ukraine in the Donetsk region near the Russia-Ukraine border on February 21.
Several Indians have been duped into working as security helpers in the Russian military, with media reports indicating that some are being forced to fight with Ukrainian soldiers in border areas.
