Maharashtra: Woman doctor hit with iron rod in brawl at Ghati hospital | Video

A woman doctor was struck on the head with an iron rod after a fight broke out in a government hospital in Maharashtra on Thursday. The brawl was caught on the hospital’s CCTV camera and its video has gone viral on social media.

In the video, a group of men is seen entering the Ghati Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and assaulting a patient.

During the altercation, a resident doctor, Dr Preeti Bhoge, was struck on the head with an iron rod, causing her injury. The security personnel attempted to intervene but were unable to prevent the patient from being beaten severely.

The police have registered a case under section 353 of the IPC (assault upon a public servant) against seven people involved in the incident. Five accused have been detained, and further investigations are ongoing.

The victim of the assault, Akhil Sheikh Shamsher, revealed that the attack stemmed from a parking dispute with a neighbouring shopkeeper, which escalated into a violent confrontation at the hospital.

Following the incident, NCP MP Supriya Sule demanded strict action against the rioters. In a post on X, she wrote, “There was an incident where a gang broke into the Ghati Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and beat up the resident doctor with a rod. This is a very serious matter. If even the doctors working in the hospital are not safe, how can patient care remain viable?”

“It is necessary for the government to conduct a thorough investigation in this matter and take strict action against the rioters,” she further said.
