Odisha: Former Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang joins back Congress with wife, son

Former Odisha Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang returned to the Congress fold as he formally joined the party on Wednesday.

Gamang was at the Congress Headquarters in New Delhi along with his son Shishir Gamang, wife Hema Gamang and former MP Sanjay Bhoi, who also joined the party.

Congress National Treasurer Ajay Maken and Odisha Congress in-charge and former MP Dr Ajoy Kumar were also present.

Addressing the press conference, Ajay Maken said these leaders had made significant contributions to the development of Odisha. He further said that their inclusion will strengthen the ideology of Congress not only in Odisha, but also in the whole country, and provide support to Rahul Gandhi’s “fight for justice”.

Giridhar appreciated the Congress for practising “principled politics”. He further said that although he was associated with other parties, he felt respected only in the Congress.

“The steps taken by Rahul Gandhi are not political, but constitutional. We will continue to fight for social, economic, and political justice,” he said.

Apart from being elected as the chief minister, Giridhar has served as an MP for nine terms and held a ministerial position in the central government for 11 years.
