Uttar Pradesh: Schools closed in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad due to cold wave. Check dates


Schools have been shut in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, in view of dense fog and prevailing cold wave conditions in the state.

In Gautam Buddh Nagar district, schools in Noida and Greater Noida have been closed till January 16 (Tuesday) for students from nursery to Class 8 due to cold weather conditions. However, classes will continue regularly for students from Class 9 to 12.

Timings for Class 9 to 12 will be from 10 am to 3 pm, and it will continue till January 20, according to officials.

“In compliance with the instructions given by Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate (DM) Maneesh Kumar Verma, in view of the dense fog and extremely cold weather, all schools will observe a holiday till January 16 for classes nursery to 8,” Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar said in an order.

“The entire staff of the school will remain working on January 16. The order should be strictly followed,” he added.

In neighbouring Ghaziabad, schools have been closed till January 16 for students from nursery to Class 12 due to cold wave, according to an order issued by the district school inspector. Strict action will be taken against schools if they were found violating the order.

According to an order issued by Basti DM Andra Vamsi, schools have been shut in Basti district till January 18 (Thursday) for students up till Class 8 due to the cold weather conditions.

A similar order was issued by the Mainpuri district administration, wherein schools in Mainpuri district for students from Class 1 to 8 will remain closed till January 16 (Tuesday).

The schools were shut as dense to very dense fog and cold wave to severe cold wave conditions were likely to prevail in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab and Delhi till January 16-17 and in isolated pockets in the region for the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its bulletin.
