With votes being counted in Pakistan, more than 48 hours after polling ended, protests are taking place across the country over alleged rigging and fraud in the counting process.
As of now, independent candidates who are backed by jailed Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), won over 100 seats as per preliminary results. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have won 74 and 54 seats, respectively.
With the country appearing headed for a hung Parliament, hectic parleys are on regarding the formation of the next government.
Meanwhile, a federal appeals court ruled that Donald Trump does not have immunity from charges that he plotted to overturn his 2020 election defeat, bringing the former US President a step closer to an unprecedented criminal trial, news agency Reuters reported.
A three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected Trump’s claim that he cannot be prosecuted because the allegations relate to his official responsibilities as President.
